been down one time - been down two times
and i'm never going back again

Hello, I'm Caradoc Dearborn but you can call me Cary if you like. I'm a simple guy really. I like hanging out with my mates, girls and doing well in school. I don't ask much from the world and only wish it didn't ask as much from me.

He nodded as she spoke. “Oh, it’s like when someone yawns and everyone else yawns. It’s really odd.” He laughed softly and walked down a flight of stairs. “To get to the kitchens, all you need to remember is that you go to the left of the school and turn right down the stairs when you see the portrait of the lady in the yellow dress with the peacock.”

“Mhm. Exactly.” She nodded, laughing with him and jogging down the stairs with him. She listened, trying to note what he said in her mind. “Okay. Lady, yellow, peacock. Got it.” She followed him down the stairs, until they reached the bottom and then followed him down the corridor. “You’re…Hufflepuff, right?”

Caradoc nodded with a smile, “I burrow and bagder all day long.” He laughed dorkily at his own joke and his smile broadened seeing the kitchens. “Ah, here we are. I’m definitely want some tea and pudding even more now.” He sat down at a table and watched a little elf come out. “Hi Wendels. We’d like two cups of tea and two bowls of pudding, if you’d be so kind,” he said sweetly. The House Elf bowed with a smile and trotted off into the kitchens.

Rose smiled over at him, biting her bottom lip a little. She realized how easy it was to talk to Caradoc, not at all how it had been with Sirius. “It’s the power of suggestion. Someone says they have a head ache and suddenly, your own head starts to hurt a little.” She nodded, following him towards the kitchens, feeling completely turned around. She really needed to pay more attention when walking through the castle.

Caradoc followed her out of the library and stood, watching her go the wrong way. Following after her, he placed his hands on her arms and turned her around. “Wrong way, Rose unless you want a major detour.” He chuckled and began walking the other way. Making sure Rose was following him, he grinned and put his own hands in his pockets. “So I think I may get a cup of tea as well.”

Rose stopped suddenly, feeling him grab her arms and she turned around. Her face turned bright red, feeling embarrassed for already getting turned around. “Oh. Right.” She followed him, then finally caught up with him and walked beside him. “Okay. Tea is good. You’re more than welcome to join me. I might get pudding too. I’m kinda hungry.”

Caradoc noted to himself that he liked when Rose blushed. “I might just take you up on that offer,” he grinned at her, just wanting to send more time with the mysterious shy girl from the back of the class. They continued to walk and Caradoc continued to guide him. “I’m kind of hungry too now that you mention it.”

Noticing how tired she looked, Caradoc smiled at how cute she looked. “Well I have to go down to the dungeons anyways so I could show you where the kitchens are. I wouldn’t want you to get lost and wander to where the Slytherins are.” Caradoc shot her a smile and stood up, picking up his bag. “After you…”

Rose looked up, shoving her last few things into her bag. “That would be great. Thanks, Caradoc.” She stood up, sliding her bag over her shoulder and nodding at him. “Alright..” She began to walk through the library and out of it, sliding her hands into her pockets and heading towards the kitchens, at least where she thought they were.

Rose bit her bottom lip, shrugging her shoulders. “My brother Billy has been sending me owls telling me that I better study hard. I just don’t want to let him down.” She looked down at her hands for a second, before looking back up at him. “I was actually trying to decide if I wanted to go get a cup of tea before I went back to my dorm for the night.”

He nodded, knowing exactly how it felt to having family pressures on him. He shook off the feeling and smiled at her. “I think you deserve that cup of tea. If you’re stressed, your brain isn’t going to take in as much information. So just relax then.” Caradoc gave her a smile and sighed softly to himself, wondering if he should be studying more.

Rose smiled sincerely, leaning forward and placing her elbows on the table. “Yeah, you are right. I think I might just go try to find the kitchens right now. Sirius showed me a while ago, but I haven’t been there on my own yet.” She started to pack her stuff up, looking very tired.

“Well maybe you should just rest your mind for a bit. Cramming has never done anyone good,” he smiled gently at her and closed her book before pushing it back to her. “So how long have you been here anyway? I try to only stay here for four hours a day or else I’ll go insane.” He rested his elbow on the table and sighed, his own brain aching from over studying.

Rose backed her hands back to rest on her lap when he closed her book and smiled up at him. “Umm..I came here right after I got out of Transfiguration this afternoon, then I took a short break for dinner and came right back here.” She leaned back in her chair, letting out a long breath. “I’ve been doing course work basically all day.”

His eyes widened as she said how long she had been there. “Merlin, keep up with that and people might just think you’re a Ravenclaw. You need to do something more than just studying.” Caradoc let out a small yawn and laughed, “Four hours in here and I’m already ready for bed.”

He nodded as she confirmed his name with a smile. “I’m good. Just finished a long study binge,” he glanced at her book and tilted his head in thought. “You know I could maybe help you with that. I’m decent at Potions, I guess.” Caradoc brushed his hand through his hair, feeling a small butterfly in his stomach. He had always thought about talking to Rose but never really knew what to say.

Rose let out a sigh of relief and smiled at him, “Would you really? That would be amazing…I’m having the hardest time.” She pushed her book towards him to let him see what she had been working on. Rose looked across the table at him. She’d noticed Caradoc around the castle and in classes, but they’d never spoken to each other before, except for quick words in classes. Her smiled widened a little, as she looked at him.

Looking down at the book and reading the section, he looked up and happily tried to explain it to her the best way he could. He sighed and laughed softly, “I’m sorry if that didn’t make any sense. I’m really bad at explaining things.” Caradoc looked down at the book again and reread the section again. “I really hope I’m not making this worse.”

Rose tried to follow him, but her face just scrunched up more in confusion. “Umm. I don’t get it.” She rubbed her face again and let out a sigh. “It’s not you though. I’m pretty sure it’s me. I think I’m fried from studying.” She shrugged her shoulders, tucking her hair behind her ear. “Don’t worry about it. I’ll figure it out…or fail my potions OWL. Either way, it’ll be okay.”
